Leggett Piano Service is the premier tuning, moving, rebuilding, and sales store for the Mother Lode region of central California. Our tuning base is primarily Amador and Calaveras Counties, however we have clients in Sacramento, Tuolumne, El Dorado and San Joaquin Counties (see map) and welcome calls from these regions.
Mr. Leggett was trained to tune pianos by ear by Master Teacher, Perter Clark, RPT, CTE . Later, Leggett studied how to use electronic tuning devices (ETD). Combining the skills learned in ear tuning with ETD’s can mathematically map out a perfect tuning for any piano. This is very helpful for monitoring the piano as the seasons change. How much the pianos tuning moves can be determined very quickly by using the ETD.
Here in the Sierra Nevada Foothills, pianos will rise sharp in the winter and fall flat in the summer. This means that our humidity is greater in the Winter and thus our climate dry in the summer months. in subsequent tunings. In the lower elevations (3000 feet and under) most pianos will only need a partial humidity control system. In the up-country regions, we have found that pianos need the full system. Please read more about humidity control systems here.
We also move pianos and organs as apart of our business. We have either purchased or fabricated our moving tools to insure safety, reliability and efficiency. We are very good at what we do and we are very careful not to damage pianos. We are however, fully insured in case of an emergency. Please read more about our moving policies here.
Leggett Piano service also offers rebuilding and refinishing as apart of its services. Because we are primarily a tuning and moving business, we can only take in a limited amount of rebuilding jobs per year. Rebuilding is something we love doing. We also have connections with other technicians and have managed and contracted out jobs. We only contract out to people we know do exceptional work.
If you are looking for a quality new piano we can help you find the right one for you. If we don’t have it we probably know someone who does. Also used pianos. We have around twenty pianos that we have purchase because of their uniqueness. Most are turn of the century uprights that either have that name...Steinway, Mason Hamlin, Baldwin...and/or have a beautiful case. Most people look at the case first, sound second. We tend to insure a great sound first. We also have a limit quantity of used grand pianos.
Our inventory of new pianos are grands and uprights Charles Walter of Indiana. We worked hard to get this line because we feel, and all Guild Members we have asked feel, that they are the best American piano being made. They are very innovative and currently make two sizes of grands a 6’ 4” and a smaller 5’ 9”.
